The Convertible Car Seat is Built to Grow for Extended Use Through 3 Stages:

Rear-Facing Position: The car seat can be used in the rear-facing position from 5-40 pounds. This is the safest position for young infants and toddlers.

Forward-Facing Position: The car seat can be used in the forward-facing position from 22-65 pounds. This is the position for older toddlers and preschoolers who have outgrown the rear-facing position.

Booster Position: The car seat can be used in the booster position from 40-100 pounds. This is the position for school-aged children who have outgrown the forward-facing position.

And for big kids, it lowers down to act as a comfortable footrest.
